Andre Lodemann

Been a while since we had a simple, straightforward fawning post like this, but you need one every so often.   So; some 18 months ago, as me & Bao were really starting to investigate the areas beyond the obvious chunky house that dominates things a bit, I came across Andre Lodemann.  And I'm now a total fan.  He's one of the few producers I've found who can create genuine emotional depth within a dancefloor framework, where light and dark can coexist in the same track (often at the same time) and who can make a track take a very real journey over 7 or 8 minutes, but somehow without it sounding like progressive house.  Oh, and his drums are orders of magnitude more interesting than the standard, bland,  Berlinische tech sound that ruins so much house for me.

For instance, check the atmospheres and the mood of this track, 'Vehemence of Silence' (yes yes, crap name, I know) - and how interesting all the percussion is, with all those rattling claps, and how the mood of the track constantly flows, rising up before sinking back into the mire:

Or this, his release from a few weeks back entitled 'Don't Panic' which builds up with a nagging, discordant, weird tension for what seems like ages (actually, it is ages) before finally resolving into a beautifully subtle piano riff which completely flips the mood of the track around.

Or this, which is out now on vinyl via Freerange, and will be out on digital in the next few days.  Dude's a genius I tell you:
